Whole Wheat Waffles with Flaxseed

I knew as a mom I wanted to give my kiddos a healthier breakfast option. Now, we don’t have any allergies to worry about over here but I am a health nut and always try to find ways to make recipes a little healthier. I took this whole wheat waffles with flaxseed recipe from the King Arthur Flour recipe and made variations to it that make it a healthier fit for my family. My whole wheat waffles with flaxseed recipe was adapted from the King Arthur Flour recipe.

We seriously love this recipe over here. I mean, who has heard of whole wheat and flax seed tasting so good? You’ve gotta be kidding me!


Well, I’m here to tell ya, it is delicious! Pair it with some organic maple syrup and some fruit and you’ve got a breakfast for champions.

Our magic ingredient in this recipe is: Flaxseed.

Organic, pre-ground flaxseed.

Make sure it is ground flax though and not whole flaxseed! You don’t want to have to grind it up yourself- too much work in my opinion!

Step by step how to make the whole wheat waffles with flaxseed recipe

Step 1

Take all the ingredients and blend them in a mixing bowl-Doesn’t matter what order you mix in the ingredients, just make sure to include all of the necessary ingredients.

Step 2

Scoop out the batter and pour it into a wafflemaker– 1/3 cup at a time. We like to use a measuring cup to scoop out the batter.

Step 3

Flip over the wafflemaker so that the batter begins to cook. When the light turns green, the waffle is ready!

Step 4

Serve your whole wheat waffles with fruit and organic maple syrup.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • few squirts of honey for sweetening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups milk of your choice
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1 handful pre-ground flaxseed

Instructions

  1. Take all the ingredients and blend them in a mixing bowl-Doesn't matter what order you mix in the ingredients, just make sure to include all of the necessary ingredients.

  2. Use a measuring cup to scoop the batter into a wafflemaker 1/3 cup at a time. Begin cooking process in wafflemaker.

  3. Flip over wafflemaker and/or just take out waffle when done cooking. Start cooking the next waffle using the same process.

  4. Serve your whole wheat waffles with fruit and organic maple syrup and/or sweetener of your choice.
