We use all-natural tomato sauce. We make this sauce from scratch and add it to some delicious tortellini.

What’s great about this recipe is you can always add or decrease the amount of spices you want to put into the sauce. Depends on your taste and if you like the flavor of one spice over another spice.

The main ingredients for this sauce are made up of tomatoes, salt and raw honey. What? honey?! That’s right, folks. No sugar added into our sauce!

How can I make tomato sauce more flavorful?

When making homemade sauce, try leaving it simmering on the stovetop for a longer period of time.

You can also add our secret ingredient- honey.

Don’t forget the importance of spices in recipes-the amount and types of spices will give your sauce the right flavor.

Let’s get into the recipe.

Ingredients

Step by step how to make homemade natural tomato sauce and tortellinis?

Step 1

Follow directions on the pasta box/package when boiling water for the pasta, whether you decide to use tortellini or another pasta choice. Boil, cook and drain the pasta. Set aside. We like to use spinach-ricotta filled tortellini’s as pictured below or you can use this dried 3 cheese tortellini option if you’d like.

Step 2

Blend the tomatoes with the 1/3 cup of water. I suggest blending a few chunks at a time on your liquefy or grind level on the blender.

Step 3

Grab a pot and turn heat to Medium Heat. Add Olive oil and onion. Saute for a little bit.

Step 4

Add the spices once the onion starts getting clear in color or softer in texture. Add the following spices: salt, oregano, parsley and pepper. Turn heat to low.

Step 5

Add the tomato mixture you blended in the blender to the pot with the spices. Mix.

Step 6

Add 1 tbsp of natural raw honey to the tomato mix pot and 1 small bay leaf. Here, I keep heat between medium and low. Simmer and mix occasionally-the longer the sauce simmers, the better it will turn out!

Step 7

Add another tbsp and 1/2 tbsp of honey as the sauce simmers. I let the sauce simmer for over 30 minutes.

Step 8

Taste the sauce and add salt/ honey according to your taste. I’m ok with 2 1/2 tbsp of honey in total and the 1/2 tbsp of salt I originally put into the homemade tomato sauce.

Step 9

Serve with freshly grated parmesan cheese and enjoy!
